And the Winner is...
What a wonderful job they did with Friday's Assembly. Kudos to Literacy Specialist Amber White for planning this 'red carpet' event. In culmination of their writing unit they had an awards night to honor those excelling in illustration (Caldecott Awards), unique topic choices (Newberry), and best of class chosen by their peers. Teachers dressed up in their best bride's maid and prom dresses while others appeared as celebrity presenters: Edward & Bella from 'Twilight,' Clint Black & Taylor Swift, plus the Jonas Brothers! The Queen was even there for the auspicious occasion (aka Principal Wood). The kids really got a kick out of the whole affair and it was fun to see the staff honoring their students in this way. It was also sweet that Fox chose to sit with me instead of his class. His book dedication: This book is dedicated to my mother who has homeschooled me and encouraged both my reading and writing skills. Awww. These are the things that are very challenging to 're-create' as a homeschooler.
Today we did a divide and conquer. Rob took Benny to his soccer game and then went to Home Depot to do some pricing for our up-coming roof project. Ben played for about half the game and "was more aggressive this time." The team won against the Lapeer Swordfish 3-2 giving them a 3-1 record so far. I took Ethan up to North Branch for his baseball pictures and was happily surprised that they went with a local photographer mom to do the shots this year and her pricing was incredibly low! Finally got the game schedule, their Opener will be this Tuesday @ 6:30pm and since there are only six teams we really have no 'byes' except for the Friday before Memorial Day. So every Tuesday and Friday until June 23rd you know where we'll be!
I'm a mother to four children, ages 23, 18, 16 and 14, have been married to the same man (their father Robert) for 24 years. I homeschooled for 16 years and fall '09 all the kids went into public school. I now spend my time involved with various kid and community activities, strive to maintain a lifestyle of healthy, organic eating and low-impact living, and work as a substitute teacher. This is my blog.
